City of Opelousas Presents the Annual Lighting of Le Vieux Village

City of Opelousas Presents the Annual Lighting of Le Vieux Village Friday, December 6th

(Opelousas, LA) – The Lighting of Le Vieux Village is a holiday favorite event in Opelousas held each year on the first Friday in December. Now in its 17th year, the lighting offers visitors the perfect way to experience the magic of the holiday season. This year’s Lighting of Le Vieux Village is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Le Vieux Village located at 828 E. Landry Street.

With an average of 600 visitors, the annual event continues to grow as one of the area’s popular festive attractions for residents and visitors. Attendees can watch the historic buildings located in Le Vieux Village come alive with lights with the official pulling of the switch for the arrival of Santa Claus.

This year’s Lighting of Le Vieux Village will feature many activities for kids such as a petting zoo, train rides, Santa photos, a cupcake decorating station, and an ornament making station. The evening will also feature Christmas choir music by JS Clark Leadership Academy. Special guests at the event include Elsa & Olaf, Mickey & Minnie, Paw Patrol, Elmo, Minion, and a Balloon Artist Rick Hessler. Vendors with specialty items will be set up around the village. Some of these items include arts and craft, baby, handmade jewelry, Christmas specialties, baked goods, and more. In addition, food items will be available for purchase.

City of Opelousas Tourism presents The Lighting of Le Vieux Village, along with generous support from local businesses and organizations.
